STEM Days in Industry video now live!

Exciting follow-up video to the 2021 short film ‘STEM Journeys in Argyll’ is now available on our YouTube channel .

The video is the culmination of excellent partnership working with Developing the Young Workforce in Argyll (DYW),  local council departments, the four companies that so generously hosted the days and most importantly, the young people themselves. We are confident these pupils benefitted greatly from this series of memorable work experience days in March and April of this year. The offer of these days saw senior phase high school pupils from Campbeltown, Lochgilphead and Tarbert being given the opportunity to combine their employability skills and interest in STEM to apply for a STEM in a Day in Industry visit. Working closely with representatives from Hendrix Genetics Landcatch, MacLeods Construction Limited, Renewable Parts and our funders ScottishPower Renewables, the project allowed the successful applicants to spend time in a real STEM workplace, exploring more about what the company does, seeing how STEM knowledge and skills are integrated into its operations and meeting staff with a wide range of backgrounds and career stories behind what they do.

ALIenergy is enormously grateful for the time and support provided by staff at each of the four companies who opened their doors to the young people who took part. With overwhelmingly positive feedback from all concerned, the challenge now is to build on the outcomes achieved in 2022 and see the project evolve and widen its reach. Together with DYW we are already looking forward to announcing to schools the details of the next project that will offer this special experience to pupils in the final years of their time at high school.

For more background on how the project came about and where it goes from here, have a look at the new Day in Industry page on our website too.
