Scottish Home Renewable Grants
The Energy Saving Scotland home renewables grant scheme is managed by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. These grants cover up to 30% (to a maximum of £4000) of the installation cost of a range of renewable energy technologies.
The renewable energy technologies covered by this scheme are: wind turbines; micro-hydro turbines; solar water and space heating; solar electricity; heat pumps (ground, air and water source); automated wood fuel boilers and stoves.
This grant scheme applies only to residential buildings in Scotland, and you must be the owner and resident of the property (or a builder/ developer applying on behalf of the future homeowner).
The property must be used by you or your family as your principal private residence, or in the case of a new build it must be intended to become your principal private residence. For more information see HERE
The grant is not available for businesses or leased properties. This includes residential properties owned by a business, or properties with a mixed residential and business use such as a Bed & Breakfast. Such businesses can apply for an interest-free small business loan from the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland. For more information see HERE
Scottish Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES)
This scheme is delivered by Community Energy Scotland (CES) on behalf of the Scottish Government. Grants of up to £150,000 are available to a range of community organisations to help with the installation of a variety of renewable energy technologies. Communities may apply for funding for technical assistance and capital grants for renewable energy equipment installation and associated costs. For further information see HERE
Low Carbon Buildings Programme
This UK programme, run by the Energy Saving Trust for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, provides grants for the installation of heat generating technologies (solar thermal hot water, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, wood fuelled heating) in a range of buildings, including households, community organisations, public, private and non profit sectors.
Phase 1: The grants for households vary depending on the chosen technology, but you can apply for up to £2,500 per property towards the cost of installing a certified product by a certified installer. For more information see HERE
Phase 2: Grants for the installation of heat micro generation technologies are available to public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, housing associations and local authorities) and charitable bodies. Organisations may apply for up to 50% of the cost of installing approved technologies up to a maximum of £200,000 (though maximum grant levels may depend on the nature of the organisation).
